Event Photography

Updated: 6 days ago

There are generally two things to worry about when it comes to Event Photography.

Shot list + Run Sheet

That's it.

You'll have location, contact details, and some vendors will require a copy of your insurance, but for the run of the day - Shot list and Run Sheet.

The images below were photographed at NEX in Newcastle, for the Slash New Tech Conference, and Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, at Rydges Hunter Valley.

For the /NEW Conference, it was a smooth day because the directions were very clear. The run of the day, was Opening announcement, then 1 session, then lunch, then 2 more sessions following that. 3 sessions for the day, with food breaks in-between. Each session lasted 20 minutes.

For each of those 20 minute sessions, 3 individual talks were running at once. I had time out each talk, so that I was at each talk for 6-7 minutes. Thankfully all in the one venue - but still running to multiple rooms. The committee wanted shots of each speakers.

So the shot list was clear - opening speech - then each speaker.

The run sheet was Opening > Session 1 (speaker 1, 2, and 3) > lunch > Session 2 (speaker 4, 5 and 6), > snack break > Session 3 (Speaker 7, 8 and 9).

This way, the committee were clear about what they wanted from me, and I knew what I would be able to deliver to them.

When doing conference photography, I hold the camera in focus, until I capture the best moment. Speakers looking up from their notes, doing something interesting. Some people look up all the time, others look at their notes for a while, and it's hard to get a nice photo of them presenting to the room.

See - emotive - I love the expressions in the moment. I also did light touch ups for this, removing background distractions to get a clear image for the below.

Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation was a joy to shoot for, at Rydges Hunter Valley.

This was more of a go-with-the-flow style event. It made it a little hard to make sure I was doing a good job, but they do use the images for their marketing, and provided a 5-Star Google Review!

Looking at the audience, expressive, and pointing. She's a great presenter and is making eye-contact. Makes her incredibly easy to photograph. Love it!

I'd love to photograph your next event, and aside from the usual necessities - contact and location - the main detail I'll ask from you is Shot List and Run Sheet.

Thank you!
